9/7/2018: Registration Information-Includes Changes

The registration packets for the Fall/Winter season of Lasers Swimming are available at the front desk at both the Winsted and Torrington branches of the Northwest Y.  Please come to a parent/swimmer meeting in Winsted at 6 PM on either 9/17 or 9/18 to receive information about the season.   Practices start the week of 9/24!

If your family plans to apply for Financial Aid, please do that now.  It's better to have this all taken care of before the season starts.

This season Lasers will run as one combined Fall/Winter season.
There will no longer be the choice of "Pre-Season", "Winter", or "Both."
  • After reviewing previous years registrations, it was found that the majority of High School swimmers who initially signed up for "Pre-Season" ended up signing up for "Both" later in the season.  For some, this was so they could go to the New England Championship meet.  During High School season, there are days when Lasers might have practice, but HS practice is cancelled.  Come to Lasers practice and get a jump on your competition!
  • This change will also be good for younger Lasers that do another sport in the Fall, as they will be able to attend swim practices whenever they have the time (rainy days, days off, when their Fall sport ends in Oct.)  Any time in the pool working on technique and building endurance is helpful.

8/20/2018: Fall/Winter Season Meetings, Clinic, First Practice Information

Fall/Winter season will begin in September.  It's time for more fun and fast swimming!

According to the Y Fall Program Guide:

Parent/swimmer meetings are 6PM in Winsted on Mon. 9/17 and Tues. 9/18

New swimmer swim clinics are on Wed. 9/19 and Thurs. 9/20 time TBA.

Practices begin 9/24.

Please encourage friends, family, neighbors that enjoy swimming to join Lasers.

5-6 Officials needed

All officiating in our league is done by volunteer parents who have taken a half day class.

The Fall class will be held at Farmington Valley YMCA in Granby on 9/15/2018

In a typical meet there are at least three Level 2 officials and four Level 1 officials.

Recently our team has had limited numbers of officials requiring us to depend on the other teams to officiate even at home meets.  Now it is your turn to step up.  Being an official will give you the ongoing opportunity to:

  • Better learn about and understand swimming which increases your enjoyment and gives you the opportunity to educate/help others in the sport

  • Gives you a sense of pride knowing you are playing an extremely important role in the sport your kids love

  • Be right on top of the action with a front row seat

So now is the time to step up and join the ranks of Lasers officials past, present and future.

Linked you will find more details about the certification clinics, information on how to register and a Record of Meet Experience that can be used to record the meets you have done or will be doing in the future (to move up to Level 2 now or later on).
